Mini sundial

Mini sundial for a sunny window or outdoor table.  We have mathematically designed the sundial to accurately show daily solar time, equinox and solstices. This version is designed for Serbia but if you would like one for your part of the world we can create it, just choose the ‘custom’ option and let us know where you are.

To position your sundial, find a flat sunny location, and align the 12 towards true north (true south in the southern hemisphere). To read the time, examine the position of the long shadow falling from the edge of the vertical piece compared with the hour values around the circle.  To read the season, examine the position of the v-notch shadow compared with the solstice and equinox lines.

The text on the reverse side explains how to adjust the reading to approximately align with clock time.  The adjustment requires making allowance for several artificial factors that humans have developed to standardise time around the world.  These allowances include: your geographical position within the time zone; daylight saving; and the natural wobble of the sun’s position throughout the year (the “annalemma”).

This product is handcrafted in our workshop from 6mm water resistant birch plywood and finished with acrylic clear coat.
